What is Springwood?
And every kid deserves the chance to experience it.
There’s nothing like the sight of a kid coming alive in nature. Challenging themselves to run faster, jump higher. Proudly telling the story behind scrapes earned exploring the woods. Discovering their unique, individual potential with each experience.
For some kids, the opportunity to get away from it all and get back to nature can be limited, Yes, even in a place like Newfoundland and Labrador. But it’s an experience we know to be pivotal, impacting personal development and self-esteem, leading to improved school performance and brighter futures overall.
And that’s why Waypoints is committed to developing Springwood Outdoor Discovery Camp. Just 25 minutes from St. John’s on Salmonier Line, a 110-acre place for vulnerable children, youth, and families to build skills by participating in outdoor adventures and activities. A place of personal learning, discovery, and growth, in a setting that can’t be recreated.
Why Springwood?
Trees are a strong symbol of life, growth, resilience, and strength. Each year a tree goes through an annual growth pattern – shedding the old and preparing for wonderful new opportunities. After surviving the harsh winters, the tree rings that grow in early spring form ‘springwood’.
The children, youth, and families that we work with are very resilient, just like springwood. After persevering to conquer many of life’s obstacles, they are ready for a fresh start. Enriching wilderness adventures are waiting at Springwood Outdoor Discovery Camp.
